On 4 December 2019, the launch of the emblem and slogan for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 2020, the call for design proposals for the event mascot, and the 100-day countdown ceremony was held in the lobby of Nanjing Fitness Centre.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 2020 will take place from 13 to 15 March 2020. This is the first time for China to host this event. It is another top athletics event to take place in the country after the World Athletics Championships Beijing 2015, and it is also the most important World Athletics event before the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Currently, the preparations for the event are progressing as scheduled. “Nanjing’s Cube”, the first professional indoor athletics arena in China built specially for the event, has been completed. Yangtze River Boat Complex, the official hotel for the event, will be put into trial operation on 1 January 2020. The 100-day countdown ceremony marks the final stage of preparations for the event. “Sports, as a common language of mankind, serves as an important bridge connecting Nanjing and the world. The World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 2020 will be a gala that belongs to Nanjing, China, and the whole world,” said Liu Tong, Vice Secretary General of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 2020 Organising Committee and Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Administration of Sports, “It will showcase Nanjing's image as an innovative, dynamic city of sports, and the sportsmanship of athletes all over the world.”

[Event Slogan and Emblem Officially Released]

Domestic and overseas international entities and individuals interested and experienced in creative designs have actively participated in the design process for the event slogan and emblem. After many rounds of evaluation, the Organising Committee has selected “Nanjing’s Cube, Where Athletes Dream” as the event slogan. China's first professional indoor athletic arena, a cube-shaped venue built specifically for the event, has been completed. It will not only play host to professional sports events, but also meet other needs such as daily training and popular fitness. Yangtze River Boat Complex, the official hotel for the event, will be put into trial operation on 1 January 2020. “Nanjing’s Cube, Where Athletes Dream” implies that athletes from all over the world will set sail from “Nanjing’s Cube” towards their athletics dreams.

The event emblem is based on the new W-shaped emblem of World Athletics and consists of Nanjing’s initial letters “N” and “J” and design elements reflecting the features of the city. The main colours of purple and orange, matched with bright colour gradients, reflect not only the city's speed of development but also the speed of athletes in competition. The emblem ingeniously combines the initials “N” and “J” of Nanjing. The “N” is integrated with the landmark building of Nanjing, while the “J” resembles both a track and an extended section of a city road, and is integrated with the ancient city wall. By incorporating the Ming Dynasty City Wall, the symbol of Nanjing as a beautiful ancient capital, and Zifeng Building, the landmark of Nanjing as a famous city of innovation, the emblem highlights Nanjing’s urban positioning. The leaping hurdler in the emblem not only demonstrates the strength and beauty of athletics, but also symbolises Nanjing’s unremitting pursuit of leapfrog development.
