The 2019 IAAF World Challenge (Nanjing Station) Kicked off on the 21th

The 2019 IAAF World Challenge (Nanjing Station) will be held on the evening of May 21th, 2019 at the Youth Olympic Games Sports Park Stadium in Jiangbei New Area, Nanjing. In the afternoon of the 19th, the organizing committee held a press conference to release the preparations for the 2019 IAAF World Challenge (Nanjing Station) and relevant competition information. IAAF technical representative Brian Roe, deputy director of the track and field management center of National Sports Administration, vice chairman of the China Athletics Association Tian Xiaojun, deputy director of the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau Liu Wei, director of the Nanjing Sports Bureau , deputy director of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee Wang Desheng, deputy director of the Nanjing Municipal Sports Bureau, Fei Jiawei, and athlete representatives Xie Zhenye and Wang Yu attended the conference.

IAAF technical representative Brian Roe gave a speech at the press conference. He affirmed the achievements of Nanjing in the preparations for the event: "I am very fortunate to be able to meet this popular event in Nanjing, a city with long history. Nanjing is a very dynamic city. Nanjing has the ability to hold such a competition. In the past week, I participated in the inspection of Nanjing's preparations for the event and it is very good. Nanjing has achieved such great results in such a short period of time, perhaps in the next ten. Within a year, Nanjing has become one of the major sports cities in the world, like cities like Zurich and Brussels."

The IAAF World Challenge is a high-level event second only to its Diamond League. There are 9 stations in 2019 and Nanjing is the fourth.There are 16 competition events consists of men's 100m, 800m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 3000m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin, women's 200m, 800m, 1500m, 100m hurdle, long jump, shot put.The Challenge attracted a total of 178 athletes from 46 countries and regions, including many athletes of track and field sports domestic and overseas.

Chinese athletes Xie Zhenye, Wang Yu, Jamaican athletes Omar McLeod, Elaine Thompson, American athlete Christian Taylor, Spanish athlete Orlando Ortega attended the conference as a representative. The leaders and guests present at the event also presented the Chinese shadow puppets “Fu”with Nanjing characteristics to the athletes and send a deep blessing to the participating athletes, wishing every athlete a good performance. Christian Taylor expressed his expectations at the press conference: "I hope that i can jump as far as possible, the number can be as big as possible." Xie Zhenye said in response to a reporter's question: "Yesterday's competition in Shanghai, the result is unsatisfactory. There are many mistakes. It is precisely because of Shanghai's warm-up. In Nanjing, I am more confident that I will run better than Shanghai. The lowest expectation is to get the Olympics. Just like my good friend Taylor said before. He hopes that the number can be as big as possible. I hope the number can be as small as possible."

In addition, the reporter learned that some of the athletes who participated in the World Challenge Nanjing Station just participated in the Shanghai Diamond League on May 18th. The Men's 110m hurdles champion Omar MCLEOD in the Shanghai Diamond League, the Women's 400m champion Salwa Eid NASER, the Men's long jump champion Tajay GAYLE, the Men's high jump champion Wang Yu and others will all come to Nanjing to participate in the World Challenge.
